FASHION - All Over The Stripes

After my depressing hunt for a prom outfit, I needed a break from dresses. Since I'm quite a shorty, I often feel like a child wearing adult clothes whenever I dress up. That's why I'm sticking to my childish, playful but still pretty romper for today. After an exam period, all we need is simplicity right?
I got this one-piece a while ago at American Apparel and still love it! It's just so easy and quick. No more cracking your head over what you're going to wear.

That's all I have to say for today! A simple explanation, for a simple outfit.

I hope you all passed your exams!

love, Jeanne

FASHION - The Stories Named Jewelry

Last week, the online company Invaluable reached out to me with a great idea for a blogpost. They asked a couple bloggers to write about their favorite jewelry. And that's what I'll be doing today.

I don't have a huge box of jewelry that I open every morning to pick out the pieces I want to wear. No, I have one single necklace and a bracelet that I never take off, and another bracelet and a watch that I carefully lay beside my bed every night.

I used to wear a golden necklace that my mom got for her eighteenth birthday. I lost it a million times, but always found it back. The last time the necklace fell off, it appeared to be broken and couldn't be fixed. My neck stayed sad and bare until my own eighteenth birthday when I got my very own golden necklace. It hasn't been anywhere else than around my neck since the 30th of January.

Around my right wrist I wear a €3 bracelet from my favorite shop in Paris, Merci. I never take it off, which explains why it gets all rusty. The one you see on the photo is the last one I bought. Right now I'm wearing one that my sister got me when she headed over to Paris. Before those two I had another one that I got the previous time in Paris. It became kind of a tradition to buy this bracelet for one another whenever someone goes to Paris.

On my left wrist I wear a €1 black leather bracelet that I got together with my friend at a tourist shop in Florence. It goes very well with my Daniel Wellington watch that my grandparents got me for my birthday. And yes, it took me a while to get used to reading a watch without any numbers...

At first, when I got the request to write this post, I thought that my jewelry wasn't interesting at all, but now that I actually sit down to think about it, I realize that I'm carrying many different stories around every single day. And that's what I love about my little collection.

Love, Jeanneke

FASHION - Who let the legs out?

I did! But I have to admit that all I did outdoors today was run down the street to get a magazine. I felt very uncomfortable and was glad when I got back home and could stop pulling my dress down. Where I live, it's almost impossible to wear a dress without having men yell or have cars honking when you pass by. I guess it's kind of a fear I have to get over, and I will especially for this beautiful dress.

Now about the dress... When I went to visit friends in Vietnam last year, the woman who showed me around Ho Chi Minh, took me to food markets, took care of me like a real mom made me this dress. She doesn't have a brand (I'm still waiting for that one Bea), but she often wears clothes she made herself. There was this one dress she made that I was crazy about. So she took me to all of her favorite fabric, ribbon, pompon and pearl shops. Walking around that area made me want to design and sew my own clothes. But unfortunately I can't. We picked out the fabric and ribbons and she started making my dress. It has been waiting in my closet all winter and now the time has come where it's appropriate to let the legs out.

I want to encourage every single one of you to start wearing brighter colors. I admit that I love wearing black, but I recently became friends again with a good old friend who wears nothing but colors. It's impossible to be in a bad mood around her, because she's so colorful and the colors affect your mood. She's my inspiration to live happier and see the world in a more colorful way. Besides black dresses make you legs look super pale, so get out that bright dress and you won't have to worry about your milk bottles anymore.

Thank you Bea for the dress
Thank you Eileen for the photos
Thank you Julia for the colorful inspiration

Have a sunny week everyone!

FASHION - Little Checked Jacket

How I wish I could start this post off with the words "Bye winter, hello spring". Every person that had to fight its way through the thick mist this morning, knows that that wouldn't have been appropriate. Yesterday, nevertheless, was a different story. For the past couple weeks, this little jacked had been living on a hanger, waiting for the sun to allow it to start living it's life. That day was yesterday, when the sun shined so bright that even those who didn't plan on smiling had to. Let's cross our fingers for more days like yesterday and no more days like today. Let's cross our fingers for waking up tomorrow and have the sun shining through the window. Let's cross our fingers for the coffeebars opening their terraces again. Let's cross our fingers for picknicks. Oh, I can go on forever, but will you please cross your fingers with me?

FASHION - The Leotard

Dear reader, sorry for not keeping my promise about posting every sunday. I just had the crappiest week and it didn't come to the point where I actually felt like sitting down to review a beauty product. Every week is another week to make it up, and that's why I am sitting down today writing a post about this leotard.
The fact that I am far from an American Apparel model doesn't mean I can't act like one, right? I got this leotard on sale and am absolutely in love with it. This bodysuit is the light at the end of the tunnel, girls. No more struggling trying to tuck a shirt in your trousers without creases showing through.
Since my third and last pair of easy jeans was coming to its end, I figured it was time for something new. I know a few girls who own the "riding pant" and therefor know that they are of a better quality than the easy jean. The Riding Pant is an imitation of real horse-riding-trousers and are made of a very thick and elastic material which makes them warm, comfortable and figure hugging. Eventhough they weren't on sale I couldn't resist buying them. And I am very happy that I did. Let's say it's an early birthday present for my almost 18 year old self (5 more days!!)

I also wanted to thank my sister for all the effort she put in the photos. Thank you for wanting to deal with my very awkward posing. Your patience is very much appreciated.

Have a nice week everyone!

FASHION - The Jumpsuit

Happy holidays everyone! I hope that you too have decorated a tree, dressed up, wrapped presents, unwrapped presents, visited family, stuffed your belly with lasagna, and over all just had the greatest time of the year. I can't put my finger on why exactly I love this time of the year so much, but I just had such a great and cozy week! Riding my bike through the streets on christmas day and just knowing that every single house is packed with families having christmas parties makes me so happy.
I think I might love family parties more than going out dancing. I know I sound like a grandma over here, but I just love to dress up and not having to worry about my shoes getting dirty or my dress getting ripped. Don't get me wrong, I do love dancing. And believe me when I say I go crazy when my jam comes on, but don't you just love the comfort of a warm home, family, free food and free drinks?
As a shorty I rarely find dresses that don't come over my knee. But when I saw this one hanging in Zara I thought I'd give it a try. I was very surprised when I tried it on and it appeared to be a jumpsuit! Apart from the waist being a tiny bit to large, this jumpsuit fits me perfectly! And at the end of the night, many bites and sips later, that extra waist space comes in very handy.
I love how the arms are covered but it shows a lot of the chest. But because that wasn't really family-party-appropriate, I covered THAT area with a bandeau from American Apparel.
The only thing that I don't love about this jumpsuit is that it is very hard to unzip. I made sure I had some family members near me to help me out whenever I had to visit the bathroom after a few too many drinks.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

FASHION - The Neon Beanie

Yes, another beanie. Yes, another American Apparel buy. What I love about this beanie is the touch it can give to a simple outfit. You want attention? Put the beanie on. Want to be invisible? Take it off. Simple as it is.
But, I warn you to not wear this beanie on a bad-face-day, since it draws a lot of attention to that particular area. I've had this pink beanie for over a year now and I might not wear it every single day because it stands out so much, but I do enjoy a little pink in my life from now and then.
Not feeling so "la vie en rose"? They literally sell these beanies in every single color! (An American Apparel local, would've known that)  I would love to get a beige one, but I don't think I need any more headwear! I swear, my next post won't be about a beanie.

love!

FASHION - The Optic Beanie

These are the days where I just want to roll out of bed, drink coffee, go to the park, and enjoy the beautiful colors autumn brings. Instead I have to go to school and try to keep myself warm in those ice cold classrooms. Ugh, how much I crave freedom! Only 222 days left Jeanne, 222 days.
Although I love autumn and winter, I just can not seem to find a way to cope with the cold. The only thing that keeps me warm are my dad's hugs. But since he has a life and I sort of have one too, he can't hold his little girl all day long. That's when I reach out for my beanie. I love this one by American Apparel, I wear it almost every day!

What's your way to keep yourself warm?

Love!

FASHION - The Beret

It were the magazines who made me believe I was able to rock this outfit during autumn. When I looked in the mirror and saw a pale girl with a red nose and purple lips staring at me, I realized that I still live in Belgium where autumn is practically the same as winter. It are especially the American Apparel adds that made me want to go out in a circle skirt and high knee socks. This might be possible in a country where autumn is the season of leaves falling, warm temperatures and a cool breeze but where I live... You better get your winter coat, beanie, scarf and gloves ready because we're about to get frozen.
So, despite the fact that I probably won't be wearing this outfit again until june, I still wanted to share it with you. And it might not be a circle skirt or a cropped sweater, but the beret gets me as close as I can get to an American Apparel add.

Fashion - The J is for Jeanne

I am the owner of the world's smallest ears. They are that tiny that I've had someone ask me if I could even hear anything. Nevertheless, I do love to decorate them. Although my ears are probably smaller than your pinky finger, I managed to get three piercings in them; two in my left ear and one in the right one. The lady who kindly pierced me was scared ass hell, she though she would paralyse me since there is something in your ear that can get you paralyzed. Can you tell I'm very bad at biologics?
They were having 20% off at American Apparel so I thought, why not get those studs I'd been eyeing up forever? With the discount I got them for €14,40 instead of €18,00. You might wonder what's so great about saving €3,60? Well, I can get a coffee for that. Yes, I am counting in coffees these days.
The other objects in this picture are the little golden studs I wear every single day. I can't tell you where they're from since they were a gift, but I think you can get them anywhere.
Every red lipstick lover knows what lipstick this is. It's the lovely Russian Red by Mac. The reddest lipstick you'll ever come across.
And then last but not least, the magazine I've been loving: Crust. A new Belgian fashion magazine! The graphic design is on point and the articles are very interesting.

Let's hope I'll get another blogpost up soon, but school is driving me a little cray cray. Sorry guys!

OOTD - 08/09/14 - The Lumberjack

Is it the bike? Is it the shirt? Maybe the shoes? For some reason this outfit makes me feel like I'm all the way back in New York City. I've visited the Big Apple two times in my lifetime and I'm planning on making that number a lot bigger! It's my dream to move over there and go write for a magazine or start my own maybe! But sometimes I need to "reality check" and realize that I'm only seventeen years old and still living in Belgium. So if we can't be in New York but want to feel as if we are, we dress like New Yorkers do. And that, my friend, is how I keep my days exciting. If you can't have that thing you want so bad, reach out for the things you do have. Dressing like a New Yorker makes me feel that tiny bit closer to fulfilling my dream.

OOTD - 01/09/14 - Back to school

New schoolyear, new month, new clothes, new beginnings. Even though most people make resolutions on new year's eve, I like to make mine on the first of september. I went to school with a big smile on my face and the thought that this year school wasn't going to bring me down like it did last year. So, even when we got our timetable that appeared to be just as shitty as my last one, maybe just a little bit shittier since I have to stay an hour longer in school on fridays, the smile stayed with me the entire day.
I don't know if it's the fact that this is my last year but I've decided to enjoy every single minute of it. In the future I want to be that adult that tells kids about how great of a time she had in high school. Even if this isn't your last year, please bare with me and let's make it a year to remember!

OOTN - The Grandpa Shirt

What's wrong with my hand? It looks very strange...

Boyfriend jeans, boyfriend shirt, boyfriend sweater... I introduce you to the grandpa shirt. Yes, it's a thing. We, single girls, get to be fashionable too, don't we? So, when there's no boyfriend around to let us wear their clothes, that's when the grandpa comes in handy. And let's be real, who's boyfriend is that big that you can where his shirt as a dress? None, but let me tell you my grandpa has twice my length which makes me a lucky girl.
So, now you have another reason to visit your grandparents.
This is the outfit I wore when we got out for dinner and unexpected drinks. This lose shirt came in very handy since it did a great job at hiding my tummy that was busy processing a calzone quattro fromaggi. It was de-licious. Something you should definitely try when on the menu, but I do recommend you to order a side salad, because dough and cheese can be a little much for some people. Not for me since I can fit as much as I want into my stomach but that's another story...

PS: don't mind my awkward posing, one day I might be as comfortable at doing it as The Blond Salad seems to be.
PPS: I did were shorts underneath just to be sure...

I hope you're having a wonderful summer!

Miu miu sunnies

If you read my post about my love for sunglasses, you'd know that I've been saving up for the pair of Karen Walker sunglasses every blogger seems to own. And as much as I would love to call myself a famous blogger, I know sunglasses won't turn me into one. But I did feel as if owning a pair of these would make me part of the community. After saving up my money for weeks and weeks, I started looking for shops in Europe that sold Karen Walker sunglasses. Since the brand is from New Zealand, finding a Karen Walker store wasn't an easy thing. I finally found a stockist in Rome called Astrologo Ottica. Although they did sell Karen Walker sunnies they did not have the Number One Crazy Tort. I didn't want to get any other sunglasses because that would make me feel as if I had just gotten any pair because I was tired of waiting.
That same day when I entered the miu miu store in Rome, my eyes fell on this baby. The baby I had once spotted on the miu miu website but happened to be out of stock. The baby I gave up on and had to scratch of my kilometers long wish list. But when we met in real life, the love was real. How great does it feel to have saved up so much money and then finally being able to spend it on something that will make you feel so much fabulous woman and so little broken student? Seriously, when I put on these sunglasses (which I do even when it's dark out) I feel like the person I want to be in the future. Am I exaggerating? Don't think so... And I mean look at the pastel pink case! I would even buy it just for the satisfaction of pulling that gorgeous baby out of my purse.

OOTD 30/06/14 - Pisa

Finally! I'm in Pisa, Italy. I've been longing to go on this trip for so long! We're staying here for only two nights and later today we'll be taking the train to Florence. I am so excited about this. I love Italy! We go here almost every summer and I fall in love with the county a little more every time. I will make a post that will go more in detail about my stay in Pisa, but first an outfit of the day for you guys and then breakfast!
This outfit is very comfy and I didn't need to worry about my white legs too much, since they were covered with my slouchy trousers... Earlier that day I was wearing a pair of black espadrilles but since they gave my feet no support at all, my feet were dying! So we hopped into Zara and bought a pair of slip on sandals!

STUDY BREAK

Oh man, what a day it has been...
My exams haven't even begun yet and I'm already at that stage where I'm like: This needs to come to an end. It's been four days in a row of waking up at 6am, wearing no make-up, and craving food and freedom.
When I looked down at a text about the history of Germany, I got a "mental breakdown". Before you roll your eyes at me, you have to know that I'm very bad at history, let alone history written in German. Yes, you read that well. It was written in German! My dad entered my room and obligated me to go out and have a coffee. That's why I love my parents, they are the exact opposite of all other parents.
I haven't posted an "outfit of the day" in a while now but that's because it wouldn't very be interesting for you guys to hear me talking about sweatpants and Christmas sweaters.
The thing is, when I don't wear make-up and dress comfy, I start to feel like I actually am ill and lazy because that is how I look. So I put on my heals and got out the door to set my mind of things. It did me real good.
Sometimes you just have to tell yourself that it isn't that big of a deal and failing happens to everybody. I just need to remind myself that I can't do anything more than my best. And we are human, it is normal not to be able to study for 12 hours a day. It is normal to fail an exam and it is not the end of the world. We are all in this together and look at all those adults who've been through this too. Do you ever hear them moan about how much they hated high school? Barely. Which means it will be over before we know it. I won't say you have to enjoy your time in high school, because I just don't understand how people can. But I do tell you that you'll get through it eventually and if you can actually like school, you are blessed. Because I most certainly can't.

MONOCHROME AU MARCHE

If you know me in person or follow me on Instagram this might not come as a shock to you, but I am a food-lover. If I'm not eating, I am either talking about it or reading cookbooks and food blogs. I don't know what's wrong with me, but I like to describe my stomach as a hole with no ending. I keep blaming my constant longing for food on puberty, even though I've already reached my 17th year.
I try to eat as healthy as possible because I know that once I eat a cookie or anything bad I can't hold myself back and I just keep eating lots of crap. I am that person that tells herself she can eat one cookie and then ends up eating the entire box. That person that will eat the core of her apple because technically it's eatable. That person that is asking what we'll be eating for dinner the upcoming day while her mouth is still filled with todays dinner.
Since I've been to France I've fallen in love with markets where you get blinded by all of the beautiful colors and become deaf because of all the yelling merchants "allez-y allez-y, fraises fraiches!  These photos were taken with an analogue camera by my lovely sister. This is the outfit I wore on the day we were heading back home from France. Before we definitely left France we wanted to visit a market to get some local food. I love how laid-back this outfit looks. The slouchy cardigan is very just rolled out of bed, going grocery shopping at my local marché. And yes, I've joined the monochrome club! I've paired the stripy crop-top with high waisted skinny jeans to cover up my belly that was stuffed with all of the sweet fruit you get forced to eat. Not that it bothers me.

SUNGLASSESSESSALGNUS

Mirrored sunglasses

1: Acne Frame Light Yellow
2: Ray-Ban Aviator Flash Lenses
3: Mykita Sepp
4: Quay Quay Iris Mirrored Sunglasses
5: Wildfox Mirror Lens Sunglasses in purple
6: Karen Walker Siouxsie white & gold
7: Karen Walker Number One Crazy Tort

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has spotted the trend of mirrored sunglasses. Nowadays they seem to be everywhere! In every magazine, every shop, on every nose, in everyone's dream. I love this new trend because it gives you the ability to look fashionable on the days where you're not in the mood to dress-up and would rather go for a very neutral outfit. Even in your sweatpants people will turn their heads as if they'd just seen Karl Lagerfeld passing by.
On my trip to France I even had some guy whispering: "Quelles lunettes", as we crosses ways.  Not sure if that's a good thing though..
Mirrored sunglasses are also great for the days where you'd like to be a little incognito. You know, the days when you're tired of being a celebrity?
They also come in very handy for when you want to do a check up on your face. You take them off, turn them around, and woah here's your mirror.
These wonderful creatures do have a little downside! How so, you ask? Well, my sunglasses and I like to take bike rides now and then, and I've had many times where I bumped into a person I know and have me wave at them but they don't wave back because they don't recognize me because of the mirrored glasses. We all hate awkward situations like that don't we?

You might've noticed the black sheep in the collage above. Lucky number seven! These aren't mirrored sunglasses, I know. But aren't they gor-geous? I just wanted to share my love for them with you. I added these sunglasses to my wish-list quite a while ago but still haven't got around to buying them because they are so damn expensive. But that makes it all more exciting doesn't it?

Love, Jeanne

L to the B to the...

<<LBD: Little Black Dress for the sole purpose of seducing men. Most women have one in the recesses of their closet. This is the dress that is just a little too short. Just a little too tight. One that hugs curves you never knew you had. One that looks as if it was made for your body and your body only. One that makes you feel sexy the second you put it on. It has to be simple. All black, no buttons or ornamentation. The exhibition of the LBD should only be used in emergencies because once revealed, it would never again have its full potency. The philosophy of the LBD is a writ in the canon of the Sisterhood. >>
-Urban Dictionary
  • Little too short check
  • Little too tight check
  • Hugs curves check I guess
  • Makes you feel sexy check but mostly uncomfortable
  • All black If it would close it's eyes, check

Here is my attempt to dressing down a little black dress. Since I had to go to school that day, explains the pissed-off-face, I had to look a little descent and not too LBD (if that makes any sense). I love wearing skirts, shorts and dresses but since it shows a lot of skin, I like to cover up the rest of my body, which seems appropriate for this time of the year. Since it was going to rain, I put on my leather jacket which I think is slightly too long, but what the heck it was on sale and was reduced from €200 to €80. I mean, who wouldn't?
We all know that situation when, in the morning we decide to wear sneakers although we know for sure that it's going to be a rainy day, and then find ourselves whining about wet socks. So shoe-wise I went for my beloved boots that I haven't stopped wearing since I got them.

14/04/14 - OOTD

First of all, sorry for the lack of posts but I’ve been so busy lately. As the end of the semester is getting nearer, I'm getting happier, teachers are getting wilder and deadlines are coming closer. I hope you understand that after spending days and days writing a paper about the translation of the Harry Potterbooks in Dutch I’m not in the mood to write anymore. But I’ve also experienced so many great things lately! I went to London for the first time and it has given me another thing to dream about. I didn't know it was possible to have even more dreams than I already had.
Right now I’m sitting in a garden surrounded by many flowers and kept warm by the lovely sun. This can’t be Belgium right? No, it’s not.. I’m spending the week at Marseille in France. Before I left town I told myself that I was going to work for school while being in France. When I finally dropped the pile of book on the table and sat down in front of my laptop I realized that this was never going to work out and as quickly as I get distracted from homework the books went back in my suitcase. Sometimes being happy and relaxing is more important than school. The only thing I’m trying to get out of my mind is the pile of work that’ll be waiting for me as soon as I come back.

Don’t mind the awkward posing for the photo, but I hate being a tourist, so I hate taking pictures like these even more! Let’s all just take a moment of silence for the fact that I completed the challenge of wearing all black at 23°C. Another moment of silence for my €10 sunglasses that look freaking expensive.
